Once upon a time

there lived a group of people who was very close to mother earth. They would admire the flowers and eat the fruits of the trees she bore. They believed she was alive. They would take good care of her so as not to incur the wrath of the heavens. The angels would advise them on where to plant the seeds and guide them towards the rivers. They would work with fairies to tend to the wonderful gardens of paradise. They would ask the plant spirits for permission to use their leaves to brew medicine and remedies. They would hold celebrations to welcome the seasons and lived in sync with day and night. They believed that the sun represented the god and the moon, the goddesses, and there was a god for everything on earth.  They built temples to worship the pagan gods of love, strength, tides, winds, lighting and thunder. They loved the world as much as they loved themselves.

One day, a new breed of power hungry people decided to take control of the world. They were jealous of the gods, they wanted power and would do anything to get it. They outlawed the existence of the pagan gods and destroyed the temples. They accused the old wise ones of working with the devil. They imprisoned anyone who was caught brewing “potions” and labeled them as “witches”. Many of these people  went into hiding into deep forests to preserve their knowledge and wisdom. Soon, we lost our connection with mother earth.

They were so detached with mother earth that they abused it for gain. They ploughed her soil till she is no longer fertile. They exploited her mines for gold and treasure. They drilled the oceans for oil. One day, mother earth cried and cried in sadness. Her falling rain drops filled the world with her sadness, they sent waves of water around and around the world, engulfing it in a big flood of emotions.

The sun rose the next day and dried up her tears. A beautiful world was born once again, flowers bloomed as the angels sang. The fairies bustled around the gardens, the rivers entwined with the mountains. How did they ever forget mother earth? They began to look after her once more, they protected the forests from harm and stopped the exploitation of her resources. In gratitude, she smiled with a rainbow across the skies.
