{"id":184,"date":"2008-03-26T03:08:54","date_gmt":"2008-03-26T03:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/averral.com\/blog\/archives\/184"},"modified":"2008-03-26T03:08:54","modified_gmt":"2008-03-26T03:08:54","slug":"hyperreality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.averral.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/hyperreality\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyperreality"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><em>&#8220;Am i dreaming of the butterfly<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>or is the butterfly dreaming of me?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Taoism)<\/p>\n<p>The term <strong>hyperreality<\/strong> characterizes the inability of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Consciousness\" title=\"Consciousness\">consciousness<\/a> to distinguish <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reality\" title=\"Reality\">reality<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fantasy\" title=\"Fantasy\">fantasy<\/p>\n<p><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Umberto_Eco\" title=\"Umberto Eco\">Umberto Eco<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean_Baudrillard\" title=\"Jean Baudrillard\">Jean Baudrillard<\/a> refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Disneyland\" title=\"Disneyland\">Disneyland<\/a> as an ultimate hyperreality in America. Eco believes that Disneyland with its settings such as Main Street and full sized houses has been created to look &#8220;absolutely realistic,&#8221; taking visitors&#8217; imagination to a &#8220;fantastic past&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hyperreality#cite_note-4\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>. This false reality creates an illusion and makes it more desirable for people to buy this reality. Disneyland works in a system that enables visitors to feel that technology and the created atmosphere &#8220;can give us more reality that nature can&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hyperreality#cite_note-5\">[6]<\/a><\/sup>. The fake animals such as alligators and hippopotamus are all available to people in Disneyland and for everyone to see. The &#8220;fake nature&#8221; of Disneyland satisfies our imagination and daydream fantasies in real life. Therefore, they seem more admirable and attractive. When entering Disneyland, consumers form into lines to gain access to each attraction. Then they are ordered by people with special uniforms to follow the rules, such as where to stand or where to sit.
